This week I was able to record the bassoon parts for the last video I plan to edit. I've been thinking about what I should make for my final presentation, and I think I've decided on making a video detailing the timeline of this project, or something similar. I have some ideas like making the video in a format of a podcast, or like I'm being interviewed. Either way, I should be able to both give the presentation and show my progress with being able to edit videos. Below I will include some sheet music I transposed myself to detail my progress. mr._bad_guy_freddie_mercury.pdf

I have been pretty busy recently, so I haven't had much time to film videos to edit. On the plus side, I am now back on track with my blog posts and I have my next idea fully planned out. I plan on recording another video like my first one, a duet with myself where I play bassoon and piano. Right now I am working on transposing sheet music for that video, and I hope to be done by next week.
My genius hour project didn't go as smoothly as I originally thought it would. Being pretty busy at school prevented me from getting some things done, and I just didn't have enough content to edit. Taking that into consideration, I'm going to make the best that I can out of these last couple weeks of genius hour. I want to look at this project as more of a combination of different ideas rather than one set idea. I think that I could probably get somewhere with editing/mixing music, and this was a great way to motivate me to learn these new skills. I won’t lie, this part of the project took way longer than it should have taken. I started filming a video at around the 3rd or 4th week of Genius Hour, but I finally uploaded it to YouTube only yesterday. I’m not super proud of the video, I know that the audio isn’t perfectly lines up together. I’m using this both as a real first product and something that I can learn from in the future.
I put a lot of time into this video, maybe more than I should have. The song I was playing is “Dire, Dire Docks” by Koji Kondo from Super Mario 64. First, I played the piano part which I had been learning from week 1 of genius hour. Next, I tried to record the bassoon part for the whole song. I had a lot of trouble and I had to re-record it many times. I was finally able to get the audio, but I had to splice in a different perspective of just my hands. After that was the piano part, something that I had been dreading for a while. It had taken me a while to get a hang of this, because I have just gotten into learning piano. I was able to get through the whole song, even though it took me several days and a lot of starting in stopping. In the end, some of the video had to be taken in sections and spliced together into the final product. I also used a graphic at the end and a fade effect so that the audio would slowly fade out. I went back through to make sure everything was okay, such as changing the audio volume in some places that were too loud or quiet. I lined up the visuals and the sound the best I could, and I finally uploaded it to YouTube. If there is anything that I have learned from this small project, it’s that editing is a lot harder than I originally thought it was. Even though this wasn’t even that mentally or physically challenging, it still put a lot of stress on me and I am so glad that it is done. By finishing this project I have new found confidence that, in time, I can fully edit any video I out my mind to. Below I have included the YouTube video, which I personally wouldn't exactly call the final product. I know that, in the future, I will be able to create work that is far better than what I have now. This is what I am able to create at my current skill level though, and I am still proud of my work. I will move on to another video project for now, but I may revisit this last piece in the future. I'm thinking that my next song will be "Mr. Bad Guy" by Freddie Mercury. I will have this song fully transposed into sheet music, all of the parts recorded, and edited to the best of my ability by the end of two weeks. I should be done with it by the end of Week 10 of Genius Hour. For now, I hope you enjoy the video I have created. - https://youtu.be/r34RCRIaOc0 I haven't been able to work as much on my project this last week, but my bassoon and piano duet is almost done. I hope to both upload the final draft of the music video and start filming my final project video during this week. I might make a sort of podcast style video going over several topics that I will either talk about or film myself doing.
