In this past week, I have kicked it into overdrive and spent a lot of time editing my final video for Genius Hour. I have also been working on my presentation, which I am very proud of. I have been filming and working very hard on my most current video, and I think it has turned out pretty well so far. It is by no means done, but I should have it up on my YouTube channel by the end of tomorrow. Included below will be a link to my channel and a picture of what the video looks like right now, only a sneak peak.
I'm honestly having a lot of fun with editing this video, and I hope that will be clear to see. I've learned to use tools like chroma key, which is used with green screens and can remove backgrounds. It has become easier for me to add visual and auditory effects onto my videos. I have also become better at producing music and the like. There was definitely a point in the project when I was doubting my choice and I was on the verge of quitting, but I'm so glad I didn't. Overall, I'm very happy that I chose this subject and decided to stick with it. My creativity and motivation have been largely impacted by this project and I hope to continue editing videos in the future. I'm very excited to show off my final project to everyone. www.youtube.com/channel/UCxbgBQdIoBtP16ZPDo3Ak_g screenshot__2777_.png

This week I was able to upload a video to my YouTube channel as well start filming my presentation video for Genius Hour. I'm trying to make my presentation video pretty entertaining and a little funny, and I believe that it will come out pretty well. Besides that, I have recently adopted a new hobby of transposing and playing music that I listen to regularly. Most times, music isn't written for Bassoon, or even Trombone which would also be an option. If you were to look up sheet music for a popular song, the first result would most likely be a piano solo, and if not, perhaps an orchestral piece consisting of treble clef instruments. Transposing music is a lot of fun, especially when you don't have something to work off of. My most recent video isn't much as I only transposed about one page of music, and I haven't added any parts, but I like how it turned out nonetheless.
I think a better name for my project could've been "Jack starts a YouTube channel" or "An adventure into furthering my musical ability", because I just don't really enjoy editing. And I'll be honest, I probably don't enjoy it because I'm pretty bad at it. However, I am glad I chose something difficult, because I still made some progress that I may not have made if I wasn't being challenged. I don't have much to show for my project except a few videos on YouTube, but in my opinion, it's better than having nothing at all. This endeavor was honestly very fun, and I'm excited to finish it strong. www.youtube.com/channel/UCxbgBQdIoBtP16ZPDo3Ak_g - My YouTube Channel This week I was able to record the bassoon parts for the last video I plan to edit. I've been thinking about what I should make for my final presentation, and I think I've decided on making a video detailing the timeline of this project, or something similar. I have some ideas like making the video in a format of a podcast, or like I'm being interviewed. Either way, I should be able to both give the presentation and show my progress with being able to edit videos. Below I will include some sheet music I transposed myself to detail my progress. mr._bad_guy_freddie_mercury.pdf
I have been pretty busy recently, so I haven't had much time to film videos to edit. On the plus side, I am now back on track with my blog posts and I have my next idea fully planned out. I plan on recording another video like my first one, a duet with myself where I play bassoon and piano. Right now I am working on transposing sheet music for that video, and I hope to be done by next week.
My genius hour project didn't go as smoothly as I originally thought it would. Being pretty busy at school prevented me from getting some things done, and I just didn't have enough content to edit. Taking that into consideration, I'm going to make the best that I can out of these last couple weeks of genius hour. I want to look at this project as more of a combination of different ideas rather than one set idea. I think that I could probably get somewhere with editing/mixing music, and this was a great way to motivate me to learn these new skills. I won’t lie, this part of the project took way longer than it should have taken. I started filming a video at around the 3rd or 4th week of Genius Hour, but I finally uploaded it to YouTube only yesterday. I’m not super proud of the video, I know that the audio isn’t perfectly lines up together. I’m using this both as a real first product and something that I can learn from in the future.
I put a lot of time into this video, maybe more than I should have. The song I was playing is “Dire, Dire Docks” by Koji Kondo from Super Mario 64. First, I played the piano part which I had been learning from week 1 of genius hour. Next, I tried to record the bassoon part for the whole song. I had a lot of trouble and I had to re-record it many times. I was finally able to get the audio, but I had to splice in a different perspective of just my hands. After that was the piano part, something that I had been dreading for a while. It had taken me a while to get a hang of this, because I have just gotten into learning piano. I was able to get through the whole song, even though it took me several days and a lot of starting in stopping. In the end, some of the video had to be taken in sections and spliced together into the final product. I also used a graphic at the end and a fade effect so that the audio would slowly fade out. I went back through to make sure everything was okay, such as changing the audio volume in some places that were too loud or quiet. I lined up the visuals and the sound the best I could, and I finally uploaded it to YouTube. If there is anything that I have learned from this small project, it’s that editing is a lot harder than I originally thought it was. Even though this wasn’t even that mentally or physically challenging, it still put a lot of stress on me and I am so glad that it is done. By finishing this project I have new found confidence that, in time, I can fully edit any video I out my mind to. Below I have included the YouTube video, which I personally wouldn't exactly call the final product. I know that, in the future, I will be able to create work that is far better than what I have now. This is what I am able to create at my current skill level though, and I am still proud of my work. I will move on to another video project for now, but I may revisit this last piece in the future. I'm thinking that my next song will be "Mr. Bad Guy" by Freddie Mercury. I will have this song fully transposed into sheet music, all of the parts recorded, and edited to the best of my ability by the end of two weeks. I should be done with it by the end of Week 10 of Genius Hour. For now, I hope you enjoy the video I have created. - https://youtu.be/r34RCRIaOc0 I haven't been able to work as much on my project this last week, but my bassoon and piano duet is almost done. I hope to both upload the final draft of the music video and start filming my final project video during this week. I might make a sort of podcast style video going over several topics that I will either talk about or film myself doing.
I currently have all of the audio properly mixed together in the video, but I have to re-film part of the video because I don't like how it turned out. I have been brainstorming some other possible videos, such as a video in the style of a podcast. I've also been thinking about what I should do for my final presentation, I might do a collage of all my work or maybe a video that encompasses it.
All of the music has been recorded for my video, and I have begun editing on it. Currently I am working on lining up the audio and video elements. I have a few graphics in place such as fade effects and text at the start and end. It's been going well.
This weekend I have been recording myself for new material to edit. I recorded myself playing the bassoon and the piano, and put it into an editing software. I will be getting help from my sister to edit the video, and the final product will be a duet with myself playing both parts. So far I know how to make the cuts in the video look smooth and I know how to merge audio together. I think I will make an edited series of myself playing various songs either on the piano or bassoon.
I'm kind of regretting what I picked for my genius hour at this point because I don't have enough content to make videos about. I haven't really been able to do much with my video editing project, the video that I'm making for Mr. Jimeson isn't working out because I don't have enough content to make a whole video. I might try to make videos about me playing music.
